Balancing your Chakras
There are seven chakras in the human body. These chakras are wheels of energy that are psychically seen as spinning wheels of light and color. They regulate the flow of energy through the channels of the body. When in harmony with each other, the body is said to be healthy. However, any imbalances are sure to manifest in the form of physical or mental disease.
The Root or Muladhara Chakra is located at the perineum between the anus and the sex organs. It is said to be the abode of Lord Ganesh. This chakra is red in color and affects the sacral plexus, lower limbs, the musculoskeletal system, and the prostate in males. Representing the element ‘earth,' it controls the water and phosphorus content of the body. The sexual glands are associated with this chakra. The central theme of this chakra is security, both financial as well as emotional. Although there are many ways of balancing one's chakras, the simplest way out is by wearing precious stones. Ruby, Bloodstone, and Hematite are useful to balance the root chakra.
The Sacral or Swadhistana Chakra is located about two inches below the navel. It is said to be the abode of Lord Brahma and the Goddess Saraswati. This chakra is orange in color and affects the lumbar plexus, reproductory system, and all the organs below the diaphragm. Representing the element ‘water,' it regulates the bowel and bladder movements. The central theme of this chakra is creation and procreation, using one's energies constructively so as to enjoy life. Coral and Amber are useful in balancing the sacral chakra.
The Solar Plexus or Manipura Chakra is located in the region of the navel. It is said to be the abode of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Laxmi. This chakra is yellow in color and affects the intestines, stomach, liver, pancreas and other organs in the region of the solar plexus. Representing the element ‘air,' it regulates the blood sugar levels by controlling the digestive juices. The central theme of this chakra is perfection, even overdoing it at times. Citrine and Yellow Sapphire are useful in balancing the solar plexus chakra.
The Heart or Anahata Chakra is located at the center of the chest. It is said to be the abode of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. This chakra is emerald green in color and affects the cardiovascular and respiratory systems. Representing the element ‘fire,' it regulates the blood pressure and breathing processes. The central theme of this chakra is love. Emerald, Green Jade, and Peridot are useful in balancing the heart chakra.
The Throat or Vishuddha Chakra is located at the base of the throat. It is said to be the abode of the goddess Adhishakti. This chakra is sky blue in color and affects the throat and neck, including the thyroid and parathyroid glands. Representing the element ‘ether,' it regulates the senses of speech and hearing. The central theme of this chakra is expression. Turquoise, Blue Topaz, and Aquamarine are useful in balancing the throat chakra.
The Third Eye or Ajna Chakra is located in the middle of the forehead between the eyes. It is said to be the seat of the soul. This chakra is indigo in color and affects the pituitary gland and the brain. Representing the ‘spirit,' it is associated with all forms of extra sensory perception such as clairvoyance, clairaudience, and clairsentience. The central theme of this chakra is wisdom. Sodalite, Quartz Crystal, and Iolite are useful in balancing the third eye chakra.
The Crown or Sahasra Chakra is located on top of the head. It is said to be the abode of Lord Niranjan. This chakra is violet in color and affects the entire nervous system. Representing ‘unity,' it is associated with being connected to the cosmic mind and the universal energy. The central theme of this chakra is consciousness. Diamond, Amethyst, and White Sapphire are useful in balancing the crown chakra.
