How to prevent obesity

Obesity is a top priority issue in today's fast paced life. It is a condition in which the natural energy reserve, stored in the fatty tissue of humans and other mammals, exceeds healthy limits. It is commonly defined as a body mass index of 30 kg/m2 or higher. Today, there are millions of people suffering from this condition. As with any other disease, in Obesity too, prevention is considered better than cure. Obesity becomes a severe problem after crossing a certain stage. This is because, after a certain age, obesity starts damaging various vital organs. As the fat level in the body increase, it leads to various life-threatening diseases such as high blood pressure, stroke, cardiac arrest and diabetes.
Often, people believe that dieting or cutting down large meals from our daily routine helps prevent the onset of obesity. However, this may not be true.
Some traditional ways of preventing Obesity include cutting down the intake of high-calorie food, eating at the right time and exercising. Today, many hospitals and doctors are involved in spreading awareness about obesity. These factors help the individual understand the ill-effects and consequences of obesity. A number of health institutes, gyms, dieticians, and professionals advise people to stay slim and healthy. However, many people get discouraged and depressed by slow results. For such people, there are some easy and effective ways to combat obesity, such as:

Stay Active
The easiest way to prevent obesity is to live an active lifestyle. Simple activities like walking, climbing stairs helps preventing obesity tremendously. Another way to stay active is to join a health club or a gym. This will help you socialize with people who are suffering from the same trauma. Half an hour of workout in a gym on a daily basis can help you prevent obesity.

Eat healthy
The Food and drug administration (FDA) has recommended that an average person should consume 2,000 calories per day. These 2000 calories can be absorbed from foods such as diary products, meats, bread, fruits and vegetables. Maintaining your diet to meet the FDA standards can also help prevent obesity. To stay healthy, you must avoid eating junk foods such as burgers, pizzas, cold drinks, and popcorn. Try to eat only when you feel hungry. Studies have proved that eating when the body signals you to eat, can help you stay healthy.

Watch your weight
To monitor your health you should check your weight once a week. Such monitoring can help you evaluate your weight loss or weight gain. This will also help you take necessary steps to reduce the excess weight or to gaining weight when needed.

Regular health check-up
Doctors always recommend you undergo a health check-up at least once a year. This will provide essential information about potential health issues, if any. Awareness of the onset of certain diseases can help doctors as well as individuals prevent those diseases and any future complications arising out of those diseases.
