There is already much that is heard and said about smoking. Often, one comes across such information and decides not to smoke; however, as the craving arises again, one goes back to that one puff, maybe with a little guilt this time, but not for too long. This sense of guilt vanishes into thin air with the second puff. It has been found that smoking is one of the major causes of cancers. I am smoking at least 10 cigarettes a day. I want to quit this habit. I know this is very bad but I cannot give it up. Please advise.

You can give up any habit by sheer will power and determination. Deep breathing exercises can be extremely helpful in improving the oxygenation of your lungs as you attempt to quit smoking. Whenever you feel a strong desire to smoke, breathe deeply at least three times. Alcohol, sugar, and coffee are known to stimulate the craving for cigarette smoking too. So, try to stay away from these temptations. Always remember that the urge to smoke lasts for only a few minutes. Once you overcome this urge, you will be able to quit the habit very easily. Look out for healthy substitutes for smoking such as munching on a bowl of fruit or vegetable salad. Exercising regularly can definitely be of help in the quitting process. Destroying all your cigarettes, jotting down the benefits of quitting smoking, and celebrating every successful attempt to control the urge to smoke, are some of the factors that will encourage you to stick to your decision.
