I got my last menses on 4th of June and on the third day of my missed periods I went to my gynecologist for check up. She did urine pregnancy test and the result was indicative of 1 thick and 1 thin line, so she called me 3 days later after prescribing tablet Susten 200 mg. On repeating the test 3 days later, result was the same. I want to know what does this mean. Now the doctor has asked for blood test.
(Speciality: Doctor)

Urine pregnancy test result showing 2 red lines indicates pregnancy. If only one line is clearly visible but the other is faint, it could be due to weak pregnancy and indicates that the test should be repeated after 2 - 3 days. As the days progress, the pregnancy hormone (beta HCG) start increasing in urine but is the highest in the blood. So to confirm the levels, a confirmatory blood test is advisable (serum beta HCG) which your doctor informs you to do. This test will not only confirm pregnancy but also indicate if it is normal or a weak pregnancy. Tablet Susten is given to support the pregnancy as per the requirement.
