Happy Nappy Changing

Happy Nappy Changing
Besides feeding your baby, nappy changing is another task which consumes much of the time of new mothers. It is very essential to keep your tiny one's skin dry and clean. If diapers are not changed regularly then urine or faeces combined with bacteria will produce nappy rash. To maintain good hygiene, ensure that you change your baby's nappies as and when they get soiled.

Here are some useful tips to keep your baby happy in nappy...

  • Wash your hands before and after every diaper change.
  • Use a wet washcloth, cotton balls or baby wipes to clean your baby's bottom.
  • Do not wipe hard or rub the baby's skin while cleaning, washing, or applying powder as this may cause rashes.
  • Never wipe from back to front as this will spread bacteria forward from the anus and will cause urinary tact infection. Therefore, always clean from front to back.
  • You will be able to clean better if you lift your baby's legs and also clean the creases of the buttocks and thighs.
  • After wiping them, pat dry the area with a clean washcloth.
  • Slip the open nappy under the baby while lifting his/her legs.
  • The adhesive strip at the back must be aligned with the baby's navel.
  • Bring the front of the diaper between his/her legs up to his/her belly and then bring adhesive strips in front to fasten.
  • Always dispose the bowel discharges in the toilet before putting the diaper into the garbage as this practice not only ensures that the diaper does not stink but also prevents the growth of bacteria.
  • If the diaper is tight, you will find marks around the baby's legs and waist. So, next time get a larger size.
  • Change nappy as quickly as possible every time the baby wets his/her nappy or soils it to prevent your baby from getting nappy rash.
  • Never reuse the disposable diaper.
  • Use detergents that are dye and fragrance free while washing cloth nappies.
So all new mommies... Now keep your baby happy with changing nappy!
