Tuberculosis Risk Assessment

Tuberculosis is a disease that is caused by the organism Mycobacterium tuberculosis, which is spread by inhalation of aerosolized droplets from close contacts that are suffering from the disease. While the lungs are most commonly affected, practically any part of the body can get involved, once a person gets infected. Take this assessment to find out if you are at risk of suffering from this destructive disease.

  1. Do you live in an overcrowded area?
    Yes    No

  2. Do you have to frequently visit a hospital or nursing home for work or other reasons?
    Yes    No

  3. Do you have a family history of tuberculosis?
    Yes    No

  4. Are you suffering from a loss of appetite?
    Yes    No

If left untreated, more than 50% of tuberculosis patients succumb to the disease within a period of about 5 years. The destruction caused by the disease is also not reversible. Hence, it is advisable to get investigated and diagnosed early so that the condition is appropriately treated by antitubercular drugs before complications develop. Individuals with very poor immunity need to be particularly more careful because the possibility of developing miliary (widespread) tuberculosis is higher in them.
