Hyperparathyroidism Risk Assessment

Not many people are aware of a clinical condition known as hyperparathyroidism. A lot of people confuse the parathyroid glands with the thyroid gland, but the truth is the former are only anatomically in relation to the latter. Take this assessment to find out if you are at risk of suffering from overfunctioning parathyroid glands.

Practically all cases of hyperparathyroidism have to go under the surgeon's knife. Since there are two pairs of glands, the doctor decides how many of them can be removed so as to reduce the level of parathormone in the blood. It is very important to administer supplements containing calcium and vitamin D to the patient following surgery in order to prevent muscle spasms caused by a sudden drop in the levels of these two nutrients in the body.
