I am having a high ASO titer (between 200 and 400) and taking benzathane penicillin injection for the past 1.5 years. How long do I need to take this? Will it have any impact in the future?
(Speciality: Doctor)
It is not clear as to why you are on this injection since such a long time. The ASO titer is known to increase when you have a severe streptococcal infection that leads to rheumatic fever first and then if neglected can affect various tissues such as the heart, kidneys, and joints. Please consult your doctor and confirm your disease status. If in doubt, take a second opinion by consulting an MD physician. Prolonged medication is bound to have an impact on your health in the future. Therefore, focus on getting healthy the natural way by eating wisely and exercising regularly.
