My mom has diabetes. Can she consume glucosamine? I heard that glucosamine sulphate is safer for her as compared to glucosamine hydrochloride.
(Speciality: Doctor)
Studies have shown that glucosamine does not cause a significant increase in the blood sugar levels of a type 2 diabetic. Since the therapeutic effect of both glucosamine sulfate and glucosamine hydrochloride is because of the glucosamine in them, the type of salt does not really matter. It is always advisable to consult your family doctor before starting off with any medicine or health supplement for the first time.
