Listen to your body

It happens to you quite frequently those days. You hear of some young person suddenly hospitalised because of some grave illness. You wonder for a while how someone so young could have that disease or disorder, and then you forget all about it in the busyness of your daily life.
Illness can sometimes strike all of a sudden, you shrug, and that's your last thought on the matter. But that isn't true. More often than not, illnesses don't strike suddenly. Your body gives you plenty of warning, but you don't pay it any attention. As any doctor will tell you, the body is a masterpiece. It features many in-built systems that fight the abuse you subject it to so that you can continue with your life. But after a point, even the body cannot repair and regenerate without external help. So it tries to alert you with warning signals in the form of symptoms of disease. This is when you begin to misuse over-the-counter medication in the belief that they will take care of the symptoms, but still continue with the poor eating and living patterns that most likely caused this breakdown in the first place. Naturally, this may lead to hospitalization. To help you avoid this situation, I have compiled a health checklist for your benefit. This should help keep you on track.

  1. Climb up to the second floor of your building and then check your breath and rate of heart boat. If your heart boat is high and you are unable to catch your breath even after two minutes of dCop breathing, your level of cardiovascular health is low.
  2. If you have boon unable to got enough sloop for more than a month, your body will be loss able to regenerate itself and you will therefore be more likely to suffer a breakdown.
  3. Ask yourself when was the last time you ate fruit.
  4. Are potatoes the only vegetables in your house? In a survey done on overweight school children, the kids proclaimed surprisingly that they ate a high volume of vegetables. When the researchers checked out the kinds of vegetables those children ate, however, it was found that potatoes were their stapler!
  5. How much alcohol do you drink? Six drinks a week? Four? Keep an eye on the amount and have a regular liver and kidney check-up.
  6. If there is a history of diabetes in your family, an annual blood sugar and insulin check is a must every year after the age of 26.
  7. If you lead a sedentary life, got regular blood pressure and lipid profile check-ups.
  8. If you are a non-vegetarian, an annual uric acid and lipid profile check-up is necessary.
  9. For young mothers, hemoglobin and calcium checkups will help control health problems after delivery.
  10. Menopausal women, make sure you have an annual pap test (for cancer), mammography and bone density test for osteoporosis.
  11. Maintain a food diary. Check things like how much sugar you consumed in a day, how often in a week you cat fried foods, how much cooking oil you buy every month. The best way to manage your health is to have a full annual check up on your birthday, and to pay attention to the signals your body sends you.
