Is Masturbation A Disease Or A Habit?

Masturbation is the sexual stimulation that produces an orgasm. It is the physical stimulation of the sexual organs by rubbing, stroking, fondling, pressing or other forms of handling to produce feelings of sexual pleasure. Most men masturbate by rubbing their penis with their hand or hands or by rubbing the penis against something. In a man, after the body has matured to a certain point, masturbating will finally result in the discharge of semen (the fluid containing sperm cells) from the penis. In girls, the masturbation is done by rubbing the outside of their vagina or by inserting something (such as a vibrator) into the vagina. But there are a lot of variations on the use of these methods.
Masturbation is a way of relieving sexual tension that builds up over a period of time due to various reasons like abstinence from sex with partner, staying away from the partner, not wanting to have a real intercourse as not prepared for one, discovering what sex is all about, for donating sperms or before going for a semen analysis, etc. Masturbation saves a person from acquiring any sexually transmitted diseases (STDS) like HIV, syphilis, gonorrhoea, etc. It a practice that is free from the risk of causing any unwanted pregnancy. While masturbating, a person learns how they like to be touched, and thus, can express this to his/her partner for a more pleasurable sex.
There are several myths following masturbation like masturbation causes infertility or reduction in the number of sperms, it will affect orgasm, it causes weight loss and hair loss, it can cause acne, it causes penis to stop growing, it causes the testicles to shrink, it causes diseases, it causes palms grow hairy, it can make you go blind and many more to add to the list. These are some untrue statements and none of them have any factual explanation. Contradictory to all these myths, the medical researches report that masturbation in the later stages of life could prevent the development of prostate cancers as regular ejaculation will flush out the carcinogens build up in the gland.
The most reported complaint after masturbation is the feeling of guilt. It is normal and this feeling will outgrow as one gets older. But it should be kept in mind that masturbation is always done in privacy and not in public places. There may be bruising of the genital organs during masturbation if they are handled roughly or if there is no sufficient lubrication or if done with the aid of something. This can cause pain and may also give rise to infection if contaminated by micro-organisms. Some people may form it as a habit and this may affect their lives either with the increased feeling of guilt or with the incapability of concentrating on other activities. If habituated then it may affect one?s relation after marriage due to preference of masturbation over sexual intercourse with the partner. And thus, excessive indulgence in masturbation like any other addiction can be harmful.
Masturbation is not a disease, but yes, it can become a habit if not practiced in moderation. Masturbation is a part of the normal sexual development that occurs in the adolescence and that may be continued all through out the life. Some cultures and religions oppose the practice of masturbation. But the medical community considers masturbation as a natural and harmless expression of sexuality for both men and women, which can be performed through out a person?s life if practiced in moderation.
