You thought a healthy diet is just required to save you from diseases? It is true, but a balanced nutritious diet will also permit you have healthy reproductive system. Here are some nutrients which when included in diet can make you feel better and make your relationship wonderful.

  • Reduce the intake of saturated fats as high consumption of saturated fats raises the blood cholesterol levels, which increases the atherosclerotic plaque formation in the blood vessels surrounding the heart, and thus, affects the general as well as sexual health in men.
  • Drink plenty of water at least two to three litres a day to flush out any toxins in the body.
  • Vitamin E is another essential component for healthy reproductive lives in men. Sperm can be damaged by harmful molecules (free radicals) and vitamin E is an antioxidant that helps to reduce the number of free radicals. Its deficiency can lead to infertility. The sources of vitamin E are seeds, spinach, whole grains, wheat, lettuce, maize, peas, germinating cereals, tomatoes, broccoli, grapes, avocado, oats, meat, liver, poultry, egg yolk, milk and butter.
  • Vitamin B-12 deficiency reduces sperm motility and sperm count. It is one of the most frequent vitamin deficiencies. The dietary sources for vitamin B 12 are fermented Soya products, spirulina, liver, kidney, fish, beef, pork, lamb, cheese and eggs.
  • Vitamin C is also essential as it also has antioxidant qualities. The sources of vitamin C in diet are green peppers, citrus fruits and juices, strawberries, tomatoes, broccoli, green leafy vegetables, sweet and white potatoes, papaya, mango, watermelon, cauliflower, cabbage, red peppers, raspberries, blueberries, cranberries, pineapples, liver, organ meat, milk, egg yolk and fish.
  • Coenzyme Q10 helps in increasing the sperm count and motility. Rich dietary sources of Coenzyme Q10 includes chicken, beef, egg, canola oil, soybean oil, nuts, broccoli, cauliflower, strawberries and oranges.
  • Zinc is an important mineral in the diet and is required in the development of sexual health. It is required by the body for sperm production and sexual maturation. The known dietary sources of zinc are peanuts, legumes, whole-grain products, nuts, seeds, oysters, meat, liver, fish, crab, milk, chicken and eggs.
  • Selenium is believed to be good for sperm mobility. The dietary sources rich in selenium are chicken, turkey, beef, egg, cottage cheese, seafood and nuts.
  • Omega fatty acids (found in oily fish and flaxseed/linseed oils) and omega-6 fatty acids (found in evening primrose and starflower oils) can help in improving the sperm membrane fluidity and male fertility, and thus, enhance your sexual health.
  • Smoking interferes with male fertility, and therefore, if you smoke then giving up is the only solution for a better sexual and reproductive health.
  • Consuming alcohol in large quantities is known to cause temporary impotency. So if you want to have some good sex then avoid drinking or drink in moderation.
  • Recreational drugs will give momentary excitement and long time ill effects. Therefore, it is advisable never to use such products as they are known to interfere with male fertility.
  • Overweight decreases the functioning of sexual hormones, and therefore, casts a negative impact on your sexual health. Therefore, take measures to reduce your weight through planned meals and regular exercise regimes.
