Introduction

Young people in India are thus responsible for taking care of their parents when they grow old. With age, an individual becomes more prone to various diseases. The basic reason for the health concern is because the body organs stops working efficiently and the immune power of the old body also decreases with time. At this age, every organ of the body needs some special and extra care to stay away from the diseases or defects. Heart problems, arthritis, osteoporosis, diabetes are some of the major health issues found in older age. All such conditions can be prevented to a great extent by following healthy lifestyle. If your family had a history of heart diseases, then you must take care of your body at this age. It is always better to consult a doctor and keep a regular check up from time to time. It will not only help in overcoming the symptoms but can also prevent us from life threatening diseases.
Exercise
Regular exercise at any age is highly recommended for healthy body. However, at older age we can not opt for some kind of exercise such muscle toning and gym exercises. Exercises such as yoga and meditation can help older people to attain a healthy mind and body. If you are undergoing for some fitness routine, try to increase the time gradually. Special care must be taken about wearing specific clothes during workouts. The clothes must be as comfortable as possible since without being comfortable you can not exercise properly. If you are planning to join stretching exercises, do it slowly. Stretching exercises such as backstretches, back, neck and foot stretching must be performed carefully and slowly as the elasticity of the body slows down with the age. As far as possible try not doing any exercise which will result in abnormal outcomes. At this age, brisk walking for about 30 minutes on a daily basis is sufficient for maintaining healthy body.
Stay busy and happy
Older people are advised to keep themselves involved in fun activities. Older people shall keep themselves busy in doing things that they like the most. Activities like reading, listening to music, watching movies and visiting new places can keep them happy as well as busy throughout the spare time.
Diet
Old body is always in a need of essential nutrition. Hence, the diet of older people must contain foods that are rich in high carbohydrates content, high fiber content and high calcium content. Older people must maintain an optimum level of hydration by taking sufficient amount of water on a daily basis. On an average, an older person must take six to eight glasses of water to stay healthy and active.
Healthy lifestyle
Older people are strictly advised to stay away from smoking, tobacco, alcohol drinking and red meat. Over consumption of such things can lead to severe heart diseases. They must keep any eye on their blood sugar levels, cholesterol, and blood pressure. They shall also do regular health check-ups for diagnosing certain diseases at early ages.
