Pollution is the culprit that leads to health problems, if we may use the term in a broader sense…pollution at every level. Higher levels of toxic gases, germs, and suspended particulate matter in the air are slowly poisoning our bodies. Contamination affects us directly when we drink impure water and indirectly when we consume plants, fruits, vegetables, or grains grown in dirty soil with high toxic content or animals and poultry fed on such plant products. Noise pollution is another issue that is leading to sensorineural hearing loss besides increasing mental irritability and restlessness. Although our scientists are constantly on the lookout for remedies that can counter the ill-effects of polluted environments, we believe that so long as the maintaining cause is present, long-term improvement is difficult.
As if physical pollution was not enough, we have mental pollutions too that are giving rise to increasing numbers of robberies, murders, rapes, riots, and what not. There seems to be a mass mania and people have stopped using their brains. Vices seem to be ruling as virtues die out day after day. Religion, race, community, color, language, country, and numerous other such factors seem to matter more than human lives and the basic necessities of food, clothing, and shelter. Environmental pollution and man’s selfish ways have already got a large number of species extinct and are already preparing for the end of the earth. It is high time that we people realize that we have only borrowed the earth from our ancestors to pass it on to our future generations.
