Herbal Tea “Tea…is a religion of the art of life.” – Okakura

Yes, there is nothing as refreshing as a cup of tea. With the soaring craze for herbal tea, let’s have a look at healthier tea options that can boost your immunity and energy levels.

Regular teas are actually made with leaves from a warm-weather evergreen tree known as Camellia sinensis. Most herbal teas available in the market place are not tea at all. But are infusions made with herbs, flowers, roots, spices or other parts of plants. Other ingredients may include botanicals that give them their taste and contribute to an array of researched-based herbal tea benefits. The proper term for this type of beverage is “tisane”. Since herbal infusions do not contain tea leaves, they are caffeine-free.

The herbal tea does not contain tea leaves. Tea leaves are the only ingredients containing polyphenols which are known to have antioxidant properties. Hence, drinking herbal tea does not have the particular health-promoting properties associated with drinking regular tea. Though herbal infusion does not contain as many polyphenols, it does promote other various health qualities.

Herbal tea refreshes you completely giving you a calmer, relaxed state of mind. It also relieves you of your stomach and digestive problems. It provides cleansing properties for the body. You can try it for the glowing skin you always cherished. Since ancient times herbal teas have been known to promote energy and wellness.

A cup of camomile or valerian tea at night will let you enjoy a restful sleep. Sipping a hot pure or mixed ginger tea can help relieve nausea. Herbal teas contain fruity ingredients that offer an extra way to boost your immune system and encourage natural cold-fighting abilities. Research has shown that green tea may contain cancer-fighting agents, and certain herbal teas claim to combat or soothe many maladies. If you are pregnant, then it is advisable to avoid herbal tea as some ingredients may have adverse effects on the uterus.

Remember the tea kettle – it is always up to its neck in hot water, yet it still sings. So sing as you savor your cup of tea and happily add zing to your life!
